More than 20 members of the NISG management and supervisory group, including CEO Denis Martineau and CFO-COO Michael Perello, were up with the sun every Wednesday morning throughout the months of May and June sharpening and upgrading their leadership skills.
The weekly one-hour sessions, under the guidance of Training Manager Kevin Vincent, started at 6:30 am and finished June 17. The first session focused on identifying ways to improve internal communications. In week two, the group focused on issues surrounding email and text-messaging and the impact on productivity.
In week three, managers focused on The 5 Levels of Leadership and Winning Work Relationships.
Team Building took centre stage in week #4 and included a fun and innovative exercise known as the Marshmallow Challenge where teams of four competed against one another to see which group could best work as a team and build the tallest free-standing structure out of 20 pieces of uncooked spaghetti, a metre of string, a metre of masking tape, and a marshmallow, in 18 minutes.
The group wrapped up their five-week program June 17 with a session dedicated to identifying ways to make NISG one of the top companies in Canada.
A similar training program is in the works for all employees.
